Finding a Better Way — From the Shed to Nationwide Supply
Our story starts with one simple idea: fertiliser should work with nature — not against it.
Don Henderson knew there was a market for biologically made fertilisers — ones that would nourish the land without stripping it. He wanted to help farmers grow healthier pastures, build more resilient soils, and care for their land and livestock in smarter, more sustainable ways.
Farmers who knew his fertiliser background asked if he could formulate a product for their paddocks. Before long, they were urging him to start another fertiliser company.
It was at this stage Don met Alix Chittock in his work as a fertiliser spreader with his company Tararua Heliwork — and it wasn’t long before he came on board as a business partner.
From humble beginnings, Don and Alix built their first manufacturing plant at the Heliwork base in Pahiatua using mostly second-hand parts — yet it could still produce 20 tonnes of product per hour.
Starting the Production of Elevate
In 2021, Profile expanded into Dannevirke, building a second plant specifically to produce Elevate, a unique liming solution designed for hill country farms. That same year, soil scientist Dr. Gordon Rajendram joined the team as scientific advisor. Combining Don’s hands-on intuition with Gordon’s deep scientific knowledge unlocked a new wave of product development — each one designed to support soil biology, reduce synthetic reliance, and meet real-world farm needs.
Today, Profile offers a full suite of fertiliser products — all manufactured in-house and developed with environmental responsibility at the core. Every blend is aligned to the ecology of the land, helping farmers work in harmony with their environment.
Our team brings decades of hands-on agricultural knowledge backed by science, not sales scripts. That’s why farmers trust us to deliver what their land really needs — not what’s sitting on a shelf.
And we’re just getting started.
The next phase includes further product refinement, expanded manufacturing capacity, and new distribution centres.
Don’s passion for improving farming through better fertiliser hasn’t faded — and retirement is still managing to elude the Hendersons!
